CHAPTER
FIVE of my autobiography has been completed.

I have
created this page to show the world what they're missing by not hiring me full-time or
part time as a writer, photographer or darn near anything else that doesn't involve
cooking oil or retail.
There are many good people, working for paying employers,
who are a hellofalot less involved in their
community than I. And I hope it makes sense to you to consider H I R I N G a fellow who
supports his community as much as yours truly.
This site was put together in 1999 with the help of a few
friends who put it onto the internet, but I've done all thewriting and taken most of the
pictures.
I've also created http://www.aeroknow.com
which shares a lot of information about airplanes. On October 5, 2006 I launched an arts
site featuring galleries of central Illinois visual artists and links to many pages packed
with pictures and information about arts of all kinds. The name of the new web site is
Central Illinois Visual Artist Galleries, and I hope you will visit that site by clicking
here http://www.civag.com

I'm freelance writing now, most
recently producing 23 vignettes for Illinois Times' Best of Springfield 2006
issue. I need a whaleofalot more employment to keep body and soul together!. If you know
of established visual artists, including painters, sculptors, fabric artists, art
photographers who want their art and their stories to be seen by a growing number of
visitors, please tell them about CIVAG.
If you live in Springfield and have ideas for stories about
people, places and issues in this community, please send me your thoughts. If I accept a
story idea and contact you provide and am granted permission to write at least a short
feature article, I will generate a check to you -- from my own pocket of at least $10. I
need the work, and I'm willing to pay YOU for your help.
Larry
King will often ask a guest (when the person is known in more than one field), "Are
you an actor who sings or a singer who acts? I have been asking myself, is Job Conger a
songwriter with a guitar who writes poems or a poet who also writes songs and plays
guitar? My experience with local musicians, compared with experiences with local and a
growing list of Illinois poets, has led me to conclude I am a poet who writes songs and
plays guitar. I am gladly and truly a journalist/photographer because I want to be, and a
poet because I have to be.
My interest in Springfield poet Vachel Lindsay has led me to
launch a new one man show called Vachel Lindsay, the Poet Speaks. I tailor my
presentation to match the time I have. If you would like to know more about Vachel
Lindsay: the Poet Speaks, email me - writer@eosinc.com
As a poet, sharing my creations and those of others I love, I feel I am harmonizing
with people. And that is why, if anyone remembers me, I hope you will remember me as a
poet who wrote songs; a guy who loved to write as a journalist and take pictures because
it was a great way to almost sustain his life.

When not working as a journalist, I have served as Secretary,
Tanka Society of America, a board member of the Springfield Classical Guitar Society,
Prairie Grapevine Folklore Society, board member of Sangamon County Historical Society,
and curator, Air Combat Museum, In 2002 I was elected president of Central
City Neighborhood Association and in January 2004, I was the first former president of
that association to be re-elected to serve as president.
The Conger family genealogical newsletter I published for years, Conger
Confab , is on hiatus until I can get my gas service reconnected and
probably a while after that.
